At the start of 2010, I undertook a photographic project, the somewhat common "365." A year later, I finished. Now, this blog holds all those photos and related writing, but I'm in the process of expanding its functionality. For now, you just get the old manifesto, until I come up with something new:
I'm Leonard Llewellyn Godwin (call me Leon), and I'm an imagemaker. For my livelihood I produce videos and photos and graphics and DVDs and websites and book covers and brochures and other content for paying clients, all under the mantle of Cirque Productions, a small company that I formed in 2001 with my friend and colleague, Brian Burnham. My interests are wide and it spreads me thin, but one of the Top 3 is photography. Though I get paid to take pictures, I'm don't consider myself truly fulfilled; more and more I find myself wanting to pursue personal projects. These personal ideas stem from a desire to improve my skill and to take risks in the process without fear of failing a client. This blog is (finally!) an attempt to push myself into action for the sake of personal fulfillment.
Here's the hard part. Defining what this blog is. I want it first and foremost to be a 365 day photo blog: one photo a day for a year (at least). But not just that; I want each photo to be part of my own growth experience...I want to force myself to learn something from each image, be it a technical skill like artificial lighting or HDR, or some other photo skill, like street photography or subject interaction/direction. I already take pictures almost everyday, so this project is meant to force me to develop my photography, everyday, to make it better, and to give me an outlet for the results. That's another place I often fall short: sharing my work. So this blog will at least force me to at least put my images out there, even if no one pays any attention.
